Amp Improvements: What 3 Changes Would You Make?

by | 1 comment

Someone asked in a chat: What do you wish you could change about the Amp experience? My first thought was, I wish more people – everyone! – knew about Amp and joined this vibrant, engaged community. But then, of course, I wonder if too many people on Amp would somehow water down the excitement of it. Hard to say. But if I could really change three things about Amp, they would be:

1. Lose the chime at the end of songs! We know the song is over. We didn’t fall asleep at the wheel. (Though to be sure, sometimes we kinda did.) Wouldn’t it be nice if a song could end and another one start without any noise in between?

2. Make it possible to fade out of songs. Sometimes you get yourself into a 16-minute opus you got bored with at minute 5. Would it be so bad to have a gentle escape, to keep your listeners from losing their patience with you, too?

3. This one won’t fly, for sure, for many pretty obvious reasons: Change the audio compression and equalization so it’s possible for DJs who are songwriters and musicians to play guitar or piano and sing their own songs. We’re free to talk all we want, why couldn’t we also share songs with each other?

What are your thoughts? What would you change?

I’m in total agreement with suggestion #2 … though I would take it even further to allow hosts to talk over the intros and outros of songs. As a former radio professional, the “dead air” that invariably occurs at the start and end of a song annoys the heck out of me both a host and a listener.
